Q: I need to be seen right away, can I get an appointment today?

A: More than likely yes, and telemed visits are available and can be effective.

 

Q: I need a handicap parking permit, will Dr. Kunwar give me one?

A: If you are handicapped, yes.

 

Q: I am sick, and the only thing that works is antibiotic, preferably a Z-Pack, will Dr. Kunwar give me that? By phone?

A: Antibiotics are typically given for bacterial infection.  Unfortunately, they are often provided to the community inappropriately, and for various reasons.  We appreciate you are feeling ill, and want to get better as soon as possible.  At ECIM we want to ensure we are providing best evidence based medicine practices to you, the patient, consistently.  Sometimes, that means not giving in to the patients demands.  If you are uncomfortable with hearing “No” when it is in the interest of patient safety and care, you may be happier at a different practice.

 

Q: What is that form, the PHQ-9, I filled out? What does it pertain to?

A: It is a 9 question screening tool for Major Depressive Disorder and is regarded as being a reliable tool in identifying patients suffering from Depression.  According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, it can be used to diagnose and assess severity.  The most common reaction is denial.  If you think you may be suffering from depression, recommendation is don’t hesitate, bring it up with your PCP.
